Minister for Communications and Works Kye M. Rymer has urged public transport operators across the British Virgin Islands to exercise caution and place safety at the centre of their work as the new tourist season gets underway.
In a statement issued on November 5, Rymer told operators that "no journey is so urgent that you should compromise safety". He encouraged them to drive with patience, obey traffic rules, and always prioritise the wellbeing and comfort of their passengers.
Rymer highlighted the critical role transport operators play in the territory's tourism industry, describing them not simply as drivers but as ambassadors for the Virgin Islands. He noted that for many visitors, transport staff are among the first people they meet, and the experiences they provide shape the memories tourists take home.
The Minister also called on operators to embody the warmth, professionalism and hospitality the islands are known for. He urged them to share local stories, showcase the territory's culture, and take pride in promoting the Virgin Islands to visitors.
"Let us ensure that every passenger who enters your vehicle comes as a stranger, leaves as family, and leaves eager to return as an overnight guest," Rymer said. "That is the true spirit of Virgin Islands hospitality."
The appeal comes as the territory continues to see rising tourist numbers, underscoring the importance of the transport sector to the economy.
