The Inland Revenue Department has activated an upgraded eTax Filing Portal as of Monday, 2 November, offering residents a digital alternative to in-person tax filing and payment at government offices.
Accessible at efiling.gov.vg, the new system enables employers, taxpayers and tax agents to submit Payroll Tax declarations and settle various tax obligations, including Property Tax, using credit or debit cards from any location.
Premier Natalio D. Wheatley framed the launch as part of efforts to modernise public services. "Employers and taxpayers can file their returns and pay what they owe online, at any time and from anywhere, without needing to visit a Government office," Wheatley said. He added that the upgrade "makes the Virgin Islands an easier place to do business and reflects this Government's commitment to using technology to serve our people better."
The system streamlines payroll processing through several features. Employers have the option to input employee information directly or upload data in bulk from CSV spreadsheets using pre-existing templates. The portal automatically computes tax amounts, allows users to preserve unfinished submissions, and processes corrections for previously filed periods entirely online. The centralised design of assessment records helps Inland Revenue staff address taxpayer questions more quickly, while faster card processing and encrypted digital storage strengthen revenue management.
Existing account holders can log in using their current login details. First-time users may register through the portal or consult the step-by-step eTax Quick Guide. The Inland Revenue Department is available at [email protected] or (284) 468-2155 for assistance.
The Inland Revenue Department and the Department of Information Technology jointly delivered the upgrade.
