Starting December 1, 2026, the BVI Electricity Corporation and the Water and Sewerage Department will operate as a unified entity known as the Virgin Islands Energy and Water Corporation, Minister for Communications and Works Kye M. Rymer announced at a community gathering in West End, Tortola on Thursday.
Legislation enabling the combination has already passed the House of Assembly and received the Governor's assent. Under the new structure, VIEWCo will manage electricity, water, and sewerage delivery across the territory while maintaining energy and water as distinct operational divisions.
Each function will retain its own director, with a single manager overseeing both units. A Chief Executive Officer will lead the corporation overall, supported by a Board of directors.
"On December 1, the transition begins," Rymer said. "By that time, VIEWCo will be in force, and it will be the utility for water and energy under one umbrella."
The government expects customers to gain convenience through consolidated billing, paying both services at a single location. Officials also anticipate the merger will boost operational efficiency, optimise resource allocation, and strengthen service responsiveness.
A fresh corporate logo and visual identity for VIEWCo are scheduled to roll out within the following week. The government had previously held a public competition inviting submissions for the corporation's logo, slogan, and mascot.
Rymer addressed concerns among Water and Sewerage staff about continuity of income. The central government will sustain salary payments to those employees after the December 1 changeover while VIEWCo completes banking setup and administrative procedures.
