Detectives with the Virgin Islands Police Department have begun investigating after discovering a body in Lindbergh Bay Beach on Sunday morning.
The man, identified as 43-year-old Eric Halliday, was spotted floating in the water by a member of the public, who notified the Virgin Islands Port Authority. Officers from the Port Authority arrived at the scene and, with help from people on the shore, pulled the unresponsive man from the water.
When law enforcement and paramedics reached the location, they determined that Halliday showed no vital signs.
Police said they will conduct an autopsy to establish what caused his death and how it occurred. The investigation into the circumstances of the incident remains ongoing.
Authorities are asking anyone with information about the matter to reach the VIPD Investigation Bureau, call 911, or provide anonymous information to Crime Stoppers USVI.
