A security guard was shot and killed while on duty at a supermarket in Georgetown, Guyana on Thursday, October 8.
Esan Rose, who worked for CMC Security Service at Lida Supermarket on Sussex Street in Charlestown, was shot around 3:05 p.m. near the store's southern entrance. Police said a masked gunman arrived as a pillion passenger on a red-and-white XR motorcycle, entered the supermarket and fired two rounds, hitting Rose in the chest. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Rose was 37 or 38 years old and lived on Laing Avenue, Georgetown. He was carrying a 9mm service pistol with nine live rounds at the time.
Investigators recovered one used.32-calibre shell casing and two live.32-calibre rounds from the scene. Police said they were reviewing CCTV footage from inside the supermarket and surrounding areas to identify the suspect and track the motorcycle's movements before the shooting. No arrests have been reported.
