Five armed robberies targeting businesses across Tortola since December have left residents and shop owners alarmed, with no arrests reported despite apparent patterns in how the crimes were carried out.
The incidents span from a December 2, 2025 daylight holdup at House of Luxury in Tortola Pier Park to an October 11, 2026 robbery at RiteWay supermarket in Prospect Reef. A second House of Luxury robbery occurred on May 20, 2026, followed by holdups at a Blackburn Highway business in Purcell on September 25 and at Mr Nice Guy Superstore in Manuel Reef on October 10.
In each case, masked gunmen, sometimes working in pairs, entered the businesses, threatened staff with firearms and made off with cash or valuables. No one has been killed in any of the five robberies.
Two incidents have drawn particular scrutiny. The Mr Nice Guy and RiteWay robberies, which happened on consecutive evenings, share notable similarities: both occurred shortly before 8 p.m., involved two armed men and ended with suspects fleeing on motor scooters. Police have not publicly confirmed whether they believe the same individuals carried out these robberies or whether any of the five cases are connected.
The lack of arrests has fuelled concern among business operators and the public. Investigators may rely on surveillance footage, witness statements and forensic evidence to establish connections between the incidents and identify those responsible, though the availability and usefulness of such evidence in each case remain unclear.
As investigations continue, the question remains whether the reported similarities in suspect descriptions, methods and escape routes will help police link the robberies and bring those responsible to justice.
