Trinidad and Tobago police shot and killed a man wanted for involvement in a home invasion and robbery during an early-morning enforcement operation on October 23, 2026.

Mikael Isaiah Lewis, from Corinth Hills, died around 3:46 a.m. at San Fernando General Hospital after the incident in the Ste Madeleine police district.

The shooting occurred after two residents flagged down officers on Hibiscus Drive in San Fernando at approximately 3 a.m. to report that two armed men had attempted to rob someone but escaped. The residents told police the suspects were believed to be from Corinth Hills.

While searching the neighbourhood, officers spotted a man fitting one suspect's description on the lower steps of Alexandra Lane, heading northward. When police approached, the man ran up the staircase with his hand at his waist. Officers pursued and repeatedly commanded him to halt.

At the top of the stairs, the man produced a firearm and ignored orders to surrender it. Three officers then fired their service weapons. The man fell and released the gun, which police recovered.

Police records indicated Lewis was being sought in connection with a home invasion and robbery case in the Mon Repos district. The Trinidad and Tobago Police Service described the operation as intelligence-driven, designed to target firearms offences, robberies and home invasions. Investigators are exploring possible links to other active robbery, home invasion and firearms investigations.
