East Basketball Club has pulled out of the Virgin Gorda Summer Jam League following an incident that left its players stranded on the island during the weekend of October 24, 2026.

The club announced its departure via social media on November 2, stating that although the Virgin Gorda Basketball Club and Summer Jam Committee had issued a written apology, words alone were insufficient. "An apology must be backed by genuine remorse, accountability, and meaningful action," the club said in its statement.

East's players, the club indicated, do not believe the apology demonstrates the personal remorse necessary to rebuild confidence in the organisers.

"This decision is not taken lightly, but we must make a stand to ensure that our players feel respected, valued, and protected," the club added.

A Summer Jam Committee representative confirmed to media that East had exited the 2026 competition, saying: "They are not in the league anymore." The representative offered no additional remarks. Attempts to reach coach Nehassie Chalwell were unsuccessful.

East won the 2026 Winston Bolus National District League championship. In a separate message, the club apologised to its supporters and urged them to continue backing Summer Jam and other participating teams in the tournament.
