Health Minister Vincent Wheatley has signalled he may eventually disclose what he termed "very disturbing" discoveries from investigations into inefficiencies plaguing the British Virgin Islands healthcare system, though he has declined to reveal specifics at this time.

The remarks emerged during a contentious parliamentary debate after Opposition Leader Marlon Penn raised persistent grievances about the state of public health infrastructure. Penn cited concrete examples: a malfunctioning automatic door at the main hospital, the prolonged shutdown of the Iris O'Neal clinic on Virgin Gorda stemming from mould damage and roof leaks, chronic understaffing, and outstanding payments owed to medical providers.

Penn pressed the government on whether the forthcoming budget would contain adequate resources to remedy these problems.

Wheatley explained that his administration had commissioned multiple reviews to identify operational shortcomings and to guarantee that fresh investment would yield sustainable results. He then made reference to what those assessments had uncovered. "Of all the studies we have done so far, there's some very disturbing things we have discovered. Very, very disturbing things. I'm not going to make them public as they're not for public consumption, just yet," Wheatley told legislators.

The minister provided no elaboration on the nature of these findings, a timeline for their release, or what remedial steps the government intends to pursue.
