Early on Tuesday, a tree made contact with power lines at the Fond Cole Power Station, leaving the entire island of Dominica without electricity.

DOMLEC (Dominica Electricity Services Ltd.) became aware of the outage and began investigating the cause of the disruption.

By 12:41 PM, the utility had brought power back to parts of the western and northern sections of the island. Colihaut, Wesley and communities between them were among the areas restored to service.

Much of Dominica remained in darkness at that time. The east coast, areas stretching from Wesley northward, Laudat, and the southern belt running from Castle Comfort through Scotts Head to Grand Bay all stayed without power.

DOMLEC expected to restore service to the remaining dark zones within roughly an hour. The company was working to understand the full scope of the incident and apply a fix in a manner that was both safe and swift.

The utility expressed regret for the disruption and thanked customers for bearing with the situation while repair crews worked. DOMLEC also asked residents to watch for further announcements as the restoration effort proceeded.
