Three high school students from the US Virgin Islands have travelled to Honduras to take part in a hands-on coral conservation programme.
During a two-week stay, the students are using their diving skills to identify reef species, remove marine debris from the ocean floor and learn practical coral-restoration techniques. The work forms part of a broader effort to protect Caribbean reef ecosystems that face mounting pressure from climate change, pollution and human activity.
The programme combines classroom learning with fieldwork, giving the young divers direct experience in marine science and conservation methods used by professionals in the region.
