The Government of St. Kitts and Nevis has issued an updated travel advisory restricting entry from eight African countries where Ebola Virus Disease continues to spread.
Non-nationals who have visited the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Uganda, South Sudan, Rwanda, Kenya, Burundi, Nigeria, or the Central African Republic within 21 days before arrival in the federation will be denied entry. The ban also applies to any non-national passenger who has made an intermediate stop in any of these countries, even if they did not leave the aircraft.
Citizens and nationals of St. Kitts and Nevis are strongly advised against non-essential travel to these regions. Those who do travel and return within 21 days will face mandatory enhanced screening at the port of entry and must complete 21 days of self-quarantine.
The advisory, the third issued by the government on this matter, reflects guidance from the Caribbean Public Health Agency, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and the World Health Organization. Officials cited the outbreak's high case-fatality rate, sustained transmission, rising case numbers in certain areas, and continued geographical expansion as reasons for the restrictions.
The Ebola outbreak remains classified as a Public Health Emergency of International Concern.
