A member of the St. Kitts-Nevis Defence Force Band was stabbed in Newtown on the evening of October 3 while attempting to stop a fight between several young people, the Force said in a statement released Monday.
The off-duty soldier was socializing with members of the Nu Vybes Band in the area, as he regularly did, when he spotted the scuffle and moved to intervene. He sustained stab wounds during the effort to separate those involved.
Medics transported him to the Joseph N. France General Hospital, where he underwent emergency surgery. The SKNDF confirmed he remains in stable condition.
The Defence Force said it has shared information about the incident with relevant authorities and that investigations are continuing. No arrests or charges have been announced, and the soldier's identity has not been released.
In its statement, the SKNDF praised the soldier's response, noting his actions "reflect the values expected of our service members, even when they are not on official duty." The Force pledged support to him and his family and expressed hope for his full recovery. The SKNDF also reaffirmed its commitment to working with security partners and stakeholders to maintain safe and orderly conditions in the community.
