The H. Lavity Stoutt Community College has named Jennifer Potter to lead a major reconceptualisation and repositioning of the Robert Mathavious Institute (RMI) in Paraquita Bay, Tortola.

Potter currently serves as Executive Director of The Gorda Group Ltd. She brings more than 25 years of executive and governance experience across both public and private sectors. At the BVI Financial Services Commission, she held the rank of Deputy Managing Director and managed critical operational portfolios and major transformation initiatives. Her background also includes commercial governance, strategic advisory work and board leadership across private companies and statutory bodies.

The college said the timing is significant as the RMI works to build on its foundation and respond to the changing professional development demands of the Virgin Islands' financial services sector. The transition will prioritise industry responsiveness, commercial sustainability and international standing.

HLSCC President Dr Richard E. Georges said Potter's track record in institutional transformation and her grasp of the BVI's financial services landscape make her well suited to the task. "Jennifer's onboarding reflects a deliberate investment in the specialist expertise necessary to guide the future-proofing of the RMI," he said.

Potter framed the role as a chance to honour Robert Mathavious's vision. "This is a unique opportunity to continue carrying forward Mr Mac's indelible legacy," she said. She noted that Mathavious's vision extended beyond immediate industry success to building the institutional capacity and professional expertise needed for the Virgin Islands to maintain its global standing.

Potter plans to combine strategic thinking, industry engagement and practical action to unlock more of the institute's potential. A central goal will be converting the RMI's capabilities into concrete professional advancement pathways for young Virgin Islanders while building the talent pool available to the sector.

She will work with the college's President, Senior Management Team and Board of Governors to pursue a more commercial strategic direction aligned with HLSCC's wider mission and the territory's long-term human capital needs. The work will centre on deepening industry ties, expanding the range of professional programmes and revenue streams, and forging connections with international professional bodies and educational institutions.
