The People's Leadership Movement will host a campaign gathering on Sunday, November 8 at the Long Bush Band Stand and Basketball Court on Tortola, beginning at 4:00 PM, to introduce Juan Richard-Hatchett as its territorial at-large candidate.
The event, branded 'The Tip-Off,' will offer basketball games, youth programming and live performances by DJ Grimm, DJ Fogui and the band Ova Drive, according to a party press release.
Richard-Hatchett, who previously worked as an IT Technician at the BVI Social Security Board, is a regular competitor in local basketball leagues. The party first announced him in October as its territorial at-large nominee. He explained his decision to enter politics: "I stepped forward because I saw a seat at the table that people who look like me, sound like me and share similar backgrounds rarely get a chance to sit in, and I intend to use it for everyone who has been overlooked."
PLM leader Mark H. Vanterpool highlighted the party's growth since its May formation. "On behalf of the PLM, I want to thank the people of the Virgin Islands for the overwhelming support you have shown our Party since we launched in May. You have welcomed us into your homes and communities, and that support continues to grow every week," he said.
Vanterpool established the PLM after losing an internal party contest within the opposition National Democratic Party. The party has so far named Clifton Forbes to represent District 3 and Kevon S. Lettsome for District 7. Zoe J. Walcott-Maduro is anticipated to join the at-large slate alongside Richard-Hatchett.
Speculation persists about whether Sixth District Representative Myron V. Wawlyn might switch to the PLM, though senior NDP figures have publicly stated he remains with their party and plans to run under their banner. The PLM is simultaneously negotiating with the 'ALL 13 Must Go' movement as it works to complete its candidate roster ahead of the 2027 general elections.
