Social commentator and pastor Claude O. Skelton-Cline has pledged to actively support the re-election campaign of Fourth District representative Luce D. Hodge-Smith at the next general election.

Skelton-Cline made the announcement during his radio programme Honestly Speaking on Tuesday, November 3, stating he wanted to be open about his position. "I am going to do everything in my power to ensure that Luce Hodge-Smith is re-elected," he said. He added that he had "already made a decision" and wanted his audience to understand his stance without ambiguity.

The pastor devoted a special two-hour broadcast titled 'The Problems are Deeper than an Election' to the topic, with Hodge-Smith appearing as his guest during the second hour. He used the platform to allow her to outline her agenda and discuss both past developments and future plans.

Skelton-Cline's backing comes as former legislator Mark H. Vanterpool, who leads the newly established People's Leadership Movement, has announced he will run for the Fourth District seat. Skelton-Cline has previously voiced opposition to Vanterpool's political direction, stating he does not back him for the position of Premier and characterising him as not "an ancestral Virgin Islander". The pastor has also claimed that Vanterpool and the PLM are fragmenting National Democratic Party support, referring to the movement as "NDP 4".
