Work on Nanny Cay Resort's South Marina has reached a key milestone with the breakwater now extending to its full 1,430-foot length. The structure forms part of the resort's $30 million expansion programme that started in February 2026.
Construction teams will now shift focus to installing four flushing culverts and positioning armour rocks along an access road that serves construction vehicles, the resort reported.
Simultaneously, excavation has begun on a new entrance channel. This channel will approach Nanny Cay at nearly a 90-degree angle to the existing entrance and will run parallel to the Tortola shoreline. A temporary causeway built from the Tortola side enables a large excavator to dig the channel down to 14 feet. Material removed during dredging will be repurposed to build up land within the new marina and to reclaim boatyard areas. The dredging phase is projected to last two months.
A temporary navigation route remains active while dredging proceeds. The resort has cautioned boaters to exercise care when entering the facility during this period.
The completed South Marina will contain 112 berths. Eight of these will accommodate vessels up to 125 feet, while two dedicated slips will serve megayachts up to 180 feet. The project includes an expanded boatyard and a new 150-ton haul-out facility capable of handling vessels with a maximum beam of 44 feet.
The breakwater completion represents the first element of Phase 1. Phase 2 will introduce a concierge facility, a marine hub housing the Royal BVI Yacht Club and HLSCC Marine Centre, a regatta and event village, dining and retail spaces, a beach bar, parking areas, boardwalks and a waterfront flagship restaurant.
Premier and Minister of Finance Dr Natalio D. Wheatley stated at the October 2025 groundbreaking that the finished development will create 91 jobs and drive economic growth across sectors including taxi services, tour operations, food vending, provisioning and marine services.
