A 20-year-old motorcyclist has died following a collision with a motor car on the Edinburgh Public Road in East Bank Berbice, Guyana, on Saturday evening, October 24.

Adriano Anthony, a resident of New Glasgow housing scheme in East Bank Berbice, was riding his motorcycle south along the eastern driving lane when a stationary car suddenly made a left turn into his path, according to police reports. Anthony was travelling at high speed at the time of impact.

The collision threw Anthony from his motorcycle onto the roadway. He sustained severe injuries and was taken to New Amsterdam Public Hospital, where he died while receiving medical attention. His body remains at the hospital mortuary pending a post-mortem examination.

The motor car, registered PJJ 8613, was being driven by a 22-year-old man from Lochaber Village, West Canje, Berbice. A breathalyser test conducted on the driver returned zero, police said. The driver is in police custody assisting with investigations.

The incident has sparked concern among residents about road safety and driving behaviour among young people in Guyana.
