A visiting delegation from Monroe University has reinforced a partnership designed to expand educational pathways for the Virgin Islands public service.
Vice President of Admissions Operations Mrs. Michelle Mumma and her husband, Mr. Louis Horvath, travelled to Road Town to meet with the Deputy Governor and Permanent Secretary. The discussions centred on deepening ties between Monroe University, the Government and other local stakeholders.
The visit builds on a Memorandum of Understanding signed earlier this year between Monroe University and the Virgin Islands Public Service Learning Institute (VI PSLI). Under the agreement, public officers gain access to higher education with reduced tuition fees, creating a more affordable route to degree completion and professional credentials.
Government officials view the arrangement as part of a broader public service transformation agenda. The collaboration is intended to help civil servants strengthen their expertise and qualifications through continued learning, while also potentially improving the quality of public administration across the Territory.
Both sides used the visit to explore opportunities for expanding the partnership beyond its current scope. Officials acknowledge that the initiative's real-world success will hinge on how many officers enrol, how actively they engage with the programme, and whether the training translates into tangible improvements in how government services are delivered to residents.
