The Cabinet has given the go-ahead for public land to pass to the Board of Governors of the H. Lavity Stoutt Community College (HLSCC), the Virgin Islands' leading public tertiary institution.
Under the decision, the college's Board of Governors will become the receiving entity for the property transfer, which now sits within the Government's official land management framework. HLSCC serves students across the Territory through academic, technical and vocational offerings.
The land handover may help the college meet infrastructure demands, advance its educational mission or fuel future growth. Yet the Government has not made public the exact site, size or monetary value of the parcel, nor whether any rules will govern how the college may use it later.
These particulars matter significantly. Crown land belongs to the public, and decisions about its disposal carry long-term weight for the Territory. Without knowing which property is involved or what the college plans to do with it, residents cannot properly evaluate whether the transfer aligns with HLSCC's teaching goals or whether public assets are being managed wisely.
