More than a year after a burnt vehicle containing human remains was found in Vieux Fort, authorities have charged a man with the death of Venus "Toho" Joseph.
Larian Swanson was arrested and charged following an investigation by the Major Crimes Unit. He was brought before the Second District Court and remanded to the Bordelais Correctional Facility.
The discovery occurred on September 15, 2025, when officers from the Criminal Investigations Department at the Southern Divisional Headquarters in Vieux Fort responded to a report of a burnt motor vehicle at Cannelles. Inside was a charred human body.
A post-mortem examination four days later determined that death resulted from hypovolaemic shock caused by extensive thermal injuries. DNA testing later established that the remains belonged to Joseph.
The Major Crimes Unit took control of the investigation and classified the case as a homicide, leading to Swanson's arrest and subsequent charge.
