Federal marshals have brought a 34-year-old St. Croix man back to face charges in a November 2025 shooting after he was captured at a Delaware racetrack, court records show.

Dumaray Iles was previously acquitted in a 2015 case involving the death of a church deacon. He has now been booked into the John A. Bell Adult Correctional Facility at Golden Grove and is scheduled for an initial hearing Thursday morning before Superior Court Magistrate Judge Yolan C. Brow Ross.

The current charges stem from a shooting on November 27, 2025, in Estate Golden Rock near Christiansted that left two men wounded. Police say Iles fired from a vehicle within 100 feet of an educational facility. The 11-count complaint includes two counts of attempted murder, two counts of first-degree assault with intent to commit murder, mayhem, carrying a dangerous weapon as a convicted felon, unauthorized firearm possession in a vehicle, possession of an unlicensed firearm near a school, first-degree reckless endangerment, and ammunition possession.

After the shooting, Iles left St. Croix. Federal records indicate he moved to the Philadelphia area in May 2026 and took work as a licensed horse groom and handler at Delaware Park Racetrack in Wilmington. The Delaware Thoroughbred Racing Commission fined him $200 in May for failing to disclose his criminal history on his racing license application.

On October 7, U.S. Marshals and local law enforcement arrested Iles at the racetrack without incident. He was held at the Howard R. Young Correctional Facility in Wilmington before waiving extradition.

Iles has faced serious felony charges before in St. Croix. He was indicted in the August 17, 2015 ambush of Augustus Bannis, a 73-year-old deacon at Peter's Rest Seventh-day Adventist Church. Bannis was assaulted, robbed and beaten at David Hamilton Jackson Park in Estate Grove Place while conducting church work, and died from head injuries two months later in Puerto Rico.

Co-defendants Enock Cole and Joshua Felix were convicted by jury in 2019. Iles' case faced years of legal delays. While under house arrest during the homicide case, Iles was shot multiple times by an unknown assailant and was evacuated to a Miami trauma center. Following a 2022 mistrial, a jury found Iles and co-defendant Jahmal Rivera not guilty of all murder and robbery charges in August 2023.

Iles is being held at Golden Grove without bail pending Thursday's court appearance.
