The Water and Sewerage Department is in the closing stages of bringing the Hannah Hill reservoir back online, following extensive maintenance work that included resealing, interior repairs and replacement of the water-level indicator.
The facility supplies water to residents in Sea Cows Bay, Palestina and Pockwood Pond. Department director Lyndon Hodge said flushing operations were set to start on Monday, September 28, with the full recommissioning expected to take 48 to 72 hours.
Workers will drain the reservoir to clear out residual water, then refill it and run quality tests to ensure the supply meets potable-water standards. Communications and Works Minister Kye Rymer said the department would not allow water into the distribution network until all operational and public-health checks were complete.
Rymer noted that "this work marks an important step toward resolving the longstanding water-supply challenges experienced by residents and end users in the affected communities." He also thanked the public for patience during the work.
Residents living at higher points in Hannah Hill had faced reduced water flow while the reservoir was offline. The facility is the first of five reservoirs undergoing rehabilitation under a $1.97 million contract signed with Florida Aqua Store in January. The remaining four are located at Fort Hill, Sabbath Hill, Balsam Ghut and Minton Hill on Virgin Gorda.
