The Hannah Hill Reservoir in District 3, Tortola, has been restored to working order, with valves opened on October 2 after weeks of rehabilitation and testing.
Former Speaker Julian Willock visited the plant on October 3 to mark the completion of the project. Willock, who is running as a District 3 representative, said he and his committee had campaigned for years to get the reservoir fixed.
"After years of my committee and I pounding the pavement for the restoration of the Hannah Hill Reservoir, today, it's finally fixed," Willock said. He credited Deputy Premier Julian Fraser and Minister for Communications and Works Kye Rymer for delivering on their promise to repair the leaking facility.
With the reservoir now operational, District 3 residents will have additional water storage capacity, Willock said.
However, Willock made clear the work is not finished. He said his committee will continue pressing the government to upgrade water infrastructure, repair roads at all levels, and deliver other essential services.
The Virgin Islands Party government has promised to build another water plant in District 3, Willock revealed. He said the district also needs a sewerage treatment plant to match facilities in the Seventh and Eighth Districts.
"We will not stop until all people enjoy the basic necessities: water, good roads, general infrastructure," Willock said.
