The Hannah Hill Reservoir has been recommissioned and is now supplying water to consumers in Sea Cows Bay, Palestina and Pock Wood Pond, the government announced on Thursday.
The facility, which holds approximately 400,000 gallons, underwent rehabilitation work including leak detection, shock treatment and chlorine level testing before being returned to service. Minister for Communications and Works Kye M. Rymer said the work was necessary to ensure safe water distribution.
"We got to this point after rehabilitating the reservoir, doing our checks for leaks, also doing a shock treatment, checking the chlorine level. Water is now ready to distribute," Rymer said. "We will continue to do the work to ensure that all the residents with our communities have access to water."
The recommissioning is part of a broader effort to address water supply challenges across the territory. The Water and Sewerage Department has also completed repairs to reservoirs in Zion Hill, Carrot Bay (two facilities) and Long Bush on Tortola. Additional reservoirs on Virgin Gorda in Sabbath Hill, Balsam Ghut, Fort Hill and Milton Hill have been identified for future repairs.
Director of the Water and Sewerage Department Lyndon Hodge said the department continues working to deliver consistent water supply to residents. Water was declared a national critical priority as the government works to improve infrastructure across the islands.
