The British Virgin Islands has officially opened its 2026/27 cruise season with the arrival of Oceania Vista, a luxury vessel operated by Oceania Cruises, at Road Town on Tortola.

The ship's inaugural call to the territory was marked by a welcome ceremony attended by Junior Minister for Tourism Luce D. Hodge-Smith, along with representatives from the BVI Tourist Board, BVI Ports Authority, Cyril B. Romney Tortola Pier Park, and the vessel's local agent. Captain Goran Pamukovic and the ship's guests and crew received what officials described as a warm welcome that showcased the territory's hospitality and appeal as a Caribbean destination.

Oceania Vista is the newest ship in Oceania Cruises' fleet and is known for its sophisticated design, high-end dining, and destination-focused itineraries. The vessel's inclusion in Caribbean routes that feature Tortola is expected to attract high-value visitors to the territory and strengthen the BVI's position in the luxury cruise market.

The timing of the ship's arrival comes as the BVI's tourism sector shows strong momentum. By September 2026, the territory had already surpassed one million tourist arrivals, reaching the milestone earlier than in any previous year. Overnight arrivals grew by 7.9 per cent, while cruise arrivals jumped by approximately 38 per cent.

Cruise visitors support a wide range of local businesses, including tour operators, taxi services, restaurants, and attractions. Tourism officials expressed confidence that Oceania Vista's call will be the first of many successful visits this season, bringing economic benefits across the territory.
