A government employee and her mother are scheduled to appear in court on Monday to answer corruption charges related to the alleged misuse of money from a state social assistance programme.
The daughter, who has worked for the government for several years, faces more than 60 charges. Her mother has been charged with fewer than 10 offences. Both have been brought up on official corruption, deception and false accounting charges, according to sources familiar with the case.
The funds in question were allocated to help people unable to work due to disabilities and unemployed residents seeking government support. The charges cover the period from January to July 2026.
Authorities say these are the first charges brought as part of ongoing investigations into the operations of government ministries and other state-run entities. The investigation is also examining government operations from earlier periods.
