The BVI Electricity Corporation is beginning a series of public forums designed to improve dialogue with residents about electricity services and the decisions affecting their power supply.
The initiative, titled "Beyond the Bill", will run 11 sessions across the Territory's nine Electoral Districts, with additional meetings planned for Jost Van Dyke, Anegada, Tortola and Virgin Gorda. The first forum is set for Thursday, November 5 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the West End Community Centre in District 1.
BVIEC said the programme recognises that customer concerns reach far beyond what appears on monthly bills. The forums aim to build transparency, help residents understand electricity services better, correct misunderstandings and improve how the corporation communicates with the communities it serves.
Department staff will present on topics including billing methods, fuel surcharges and subsidies, the 1,500 kWh initiative, renewable energy through the Solar Technology Energy Programme (STEP), theft prevention, infrastructure safety and factors affecting power generation and reliability. Residents will also learn about collaboration with the Water and Sewerage Department, customer service upgrades, the Know Your Customer (KYC) initiative, how to apply for new connections and online payment options.
Each session will set aside time for residents to pose questions directly to BVIEC management and staff. People can also submit questions beforehand via the corporation's social media accounts if they want particular issues raised during the meeting.
The series will continue through 2027, with no fewer than two meetings scheduled each active month except December. BVIEC said it will use the feedback collected to spot patterns in resident concerns, strengthen education efforts and guide future service upgrades.
The corporation is inviting residents to attend with their questions, worries and ideas about electricity services.
