A 47-year-old Arima resident, Yvette Baptiste, was fatally shot outside her Pinto Road home in Trinidad and Tobago on October 24, 2026.
Gunfire erupted around 4 a.m., prompting nearby residents to alert emergency services. Officers who responded found Baptiste's body at the scene. According to police reports, she had been shot multiple times just minutes after stepping outside her home and was pronounced dead at the location. Investigators recovered several spent shell casings from the area.
The Region Two Homicide Bureau of Investigations is handling the case. Police have not identified a motive, and no one has been arrested in connection with the killing.
Baptiste's death brings the 2026 murder toll in Trinidad and Tobago to 279, compared with 303 homicides recorded during the same period last year, the Trinidad Express reported.
On the same day, Opposition Leader Pennelope Beckles expressed alarm over the escalating violence in the constituency. She pointed out that despite multiple States of Emergency declarations, the Special Operations Bill and the Home Invasion Bill, crime has not fallen as anticipated. The most recent State of Emergency concluded on September 17, 2026.
The homicide investigation remains active.
