Antigua and Barbuda will build a new 5,000-seat football stadium to serve as the nation's dedicated home of football, Prime Minister Gaston Browne announced on September 28.
The announcement followed an official meeting between Browne and FIFA President Gianni Infantino on September 26. The talks also included Sports Minister Dwayne George and Antigua and Barbuda Football Association President Ickford Roberts, and focused on football infrastructure development, youth programmes and opportunities for local players.
FIFA confirmed the meeting and said discussions centred on youth advancement and infrastructure development through programmes including the FIFA Talent Development Scheme, FIFA Arena and FIFA Forward. The government has committed to providing land for the stadium, while FIFA pledged support for the project.
Key details remain undisclosed, including the construction budget, exact location and completion timeline.
The stadium is part of a broader push to strengthen football infrastructure in the country. Antigua and Barbuda has received approval for 13 FIFA Forward projects since 2016, backed by US$15.4 million in FIFA investment. The football association is also working with the FIFA Arena programme, and the Talent Development Scheme is supporting advanced training for 32 elite youth players aged 9 to 16.
During his visit, Infantino attended a Concacaf Nations League match between Antigua and Barbuda and Anguilla, which the home team won 5-0.
