Julian Willock, who previously served as House of Assembly Speaker, has declared his intention to contest the 2027 general election as a candidate for the Third District seat.
During a podcast conversation, Willock addressed his relationship with incumbent Third District Representative Julian Fraser, saying his long-standing commitment had not wavered. "I will never run against the Honorable Julian Fraser. That's my political mentor. However, I will be a candidate in the 2027 general election," he said.
Willock aims to secure the governing Virgin Islands Party's nomination to run on its ticket. He acknowledged the party has established procedures candidates must follow, including participation in the VIP Congress, before they can represent the party in an election.
Willock first signalled his Third District ambitions earlier in the year through an appearance on the Talking Points programme, at which time he also ruled out running as an independent candidate should he fail to win the party's endorsement.
When asked about his preferred ministerial role if elected, Willock said his focus remained on gaining support from Third District voters, with any portfolio assignment ultimately resting with the Premier.
Willock outlined several priorities for the district: preserving Ellis Thomas Downs, reconsidering harbour development plans for Sea Cows Bay, clearing abandoned vehicles, and establishing a family recreational space. He also advocated for expanding the community centre to celebrate local heritage and culture, alongside expanding opportunities in employment, education grants, business licensing and housing.
Willock pointed to his track record in the community, noting that job fairs he had organised had resulted in roughly 20 placements, with approximately 10 individuals remaining in those roles. He indicated his community involvement would persist regardless of the election outcome. "If the people of the third district make a decision not to elect me, I will continue to be in the community," he said.
