National Democratic Party Sixth District Representative Myron Walwyn will remain on the NDP's ticket for the next general election, party figure Bishop John Cline said on Wednesday, ending months of uncertainty about the legislator's political future.
Cline told ZBVI Radio that recent conversations with NDP Chairman Marlon Penn confirmed Walwyn had not departed the party. "The information that I have and my last conversation with the chairman confirmed to me that Myron Walwyn is still on board with the party. And he hasn't gone anywhere," Cline said.
Walwyn's status had drawn close attention since he lost a bid for the NDP leadership earlier this year. He has been notably absent from recent party public events, including a revived radio programme, leading to speculation he might join the People's Leadership Movement launched by former legislator Mark Vanterpool in May. Vanterpool had also contested the NDP leadership before leaving to form his own party. Walwyn has made no public announcement of any intention to leave the NDP.
Cline said the party does not yet have a complete slate of candidates but is close to filling it. He expected the NDP to announce the remaining candidates, including at-large and district representatives, before the end of October.
The party is also moving to replace former Ninth District candidate Coy Levons, who decided not to contest the election. Cline said Levons had made a personal decision about his candidacy.
