Two women died in a shooting at SOHO Beauty Haven in Couva, Trinidad and Tobago, on the morning of Tuesday, October 28, at 9:20 a.m., police said.
The victims were Kavita Deosaran, 55, who operated the salon on the first floor of Veneris Plaza at the corner of Southern Main Road and Charlotte Street, and Cheryl Dixon, 64, a patron at the time. Deosaran lived in Midway Park, Freeport, while Dixon was a resident of La Croix Street, Couva.
Police said the gunman entered the salon and questioned Dixon about her vehicle, then fired twice at her. He proceeded into another room, confronted Deosaran, and discharged two more rounds before leaving the premises. Eyewitnesses reported that Deosaran attempted to escape but was pursued and shot, according to police accounts.
Security footage captured the suspect descending stairs and boarding a motorbike operated by a second person, police said. Investigators collected 14 spent cartridges and five projectiles from the scene.
The gunman was characterised as slim and dark-skinned, dressed in blue coveralls and a face covering. At the time of the incident, other patrons and multiple staff members, including a pregnant worker, were present in the salon but sustained no injuries.
Veneris Plaza contains approximately 10 commercial operations, among them a school serving children with special needs. Police said no suspect has been apprehended and the investigation remains active as officers continue their search.
