A Tobago nurse is in the Intensive Care Unit after being attacked with a chopper by her husband at their Signal Hill home on Wednesday morning, September 30, 2026.
Nicoya Bernard-Paul suffered chop wounds to her neck and body during the violent incident, which occurred at approximately 7:30 a.m., according to the Hunters Search and Rescue Team.
Her husband, Steve Paul, was found dead at the home. A disabled teenager was also rescued from the scene.
Eyewitness Leroy Fraser, who was driving down Luke Road, spotted heavy smoke coming from the house. He parked his car, approached the scene, and after learning from a neighbour that a woman had been injured, he assisted Bernard-Paul and transported her to the hospital.
Firefighters responded to control the blaze at the home. The incident came to public attention through social media posts before official confirmation from rescue authorities.
Investigations into the matter remain ongoing, and further details are expected as they become available.
