Star Broadcasting Corporation Ltd, which operates as the leading opposition radio outlet in St Vincent and the Grenadines, went off the air at midday Thursday, ending broadcasts on both FM and its online streaming platform.
The shutdown came after the station's FM Radio Broadcast License and Frequency Authorization expired on April 14, 2026. The National Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (NTRC) attributed the halt to unresolved corporate non-compliance matters with the Commerce and Intellectual Property Office (CIPO).
On October 13, 2026, the NTRC released a statement signed by Director Apollo Knights to clarify the circumstances surrounding the station's status. The regulator noted that it had notified the broadcaster of renewal obligations on February 14, 2025, leaving a 14-month window before expiration. The full renewal cycle runs 20 months.
Opposition Leader Dr Ralph Gonsalves responded Wednesday to a cease-and-desist order directed at the station. He stated that as its sole trustee, any legal proceedings or charges must be brought against him individually rather than the broadcaster.
