A St. Thomas woman has been arrested and charged with domestic violence assault, property destruction and disturbance of the peace following a chaotic family confrontation at a Bolongo Bay residence on Saturday afternoon.
Kayla Webster was taken into custody after the incident unfolded around 1:07 p.m. on October 24. Police responded to emergency calls about a domestic dispute and found the home in disarray, with broken glass covering the floor and wall photographs shattered throughout, according to court documents.
The trouble began when Webster's mother tried to invite her daughter to join her parents for a drive. Webster responded with profanity and threatened violence if touched. When her mother retreated to a bathroom to do her hair, Webster followed and struck her repeatedly in the head and upper body.
Webster's father intervened, pulling his daughter away as she kicked and struggled. He managed to escort her back to her bedroom, but she broke free moments later, grabbing pictures from walls and throwing them around the house. Her father had to physically restrain her a second time while other family members called 911.
The situation deteriorated further when Webster's brother arrived to help. When he tried to speak with her, she lunged at him and yanked a chain from his neck, breaking it. She then tore a hand chain from his wrist and threw a bottle of Ensure and a picture frame at him as he tried to retrieve his broken jewelry.
Webster's father sustained minor hand injuries while holding her back until officers arrived. She was handcuffed, transported to the Richard Callwood Command police station and held at the Bureau of Corrections over the weekend.
Webster faced Magistrate Judge Simone M. VanHolten-Turnbull on Monday morning for an Advice of Rights hearing. She was charged with two counts of simple assault with circumstances of aggravation domestic violence, destruction of property domestic violence, and disturbance of the peace by threats. Her case is pending in the Magistrate Division of the Superior Court of the Virgin Islands.
