A motorist on St. Croix required emergency surgery and remained on a ventilator at Juan F. Luis Hospital after colliding with a guardrail on Wednesday afternoon, police confirmed.
The crash occurred at the intersection of Paradise Road and Melvin H. Evans Highway at approximately 12:29 p.m. on October 14, according to VIPD Director of Communications Glen Dratte. The 911 Emergency Call Center dispatched Traffic Investigation Bureau detectives to the scene, where police, emergency medical services and fire personnel all responded.
EMS personnel delivered medical assistance at the location before transporting the driver to hospital.
Investigators determined the motorist was heading west when control of the vehicle was lost, resulting in impact with the guardrail. The driver was not wearing a seat belt at the time, police said.
The Traffic Investigation Bureau continues its inquiry into the incident.
