PREMIER NOT UP TO THE JOB, NDP'S CLINE TELLS VOTERS

Bishop John Cline of the National Democratic Party has challenged Premier Dr Natalio Wheatley's fitness to lead, saying that while the Premier is trying hard, his abilities fall short of what the British Virgin Islands requires.

Cline made the criticism during a political address in which he attacked the government's handling of infrastructure, water supply, economic growth and public spending. He acknowledged that Wheatley is a likeable person and skilled at travel and public speaking, but argued those qualities are not enough.

"He's tapped out. He can't go beyond his capacity," Cline said, adding that the territory needs leaders who can "get things done in the country".

Cline pointed to NDP Opposition Leader Marlon Penn, along with Myron Walwyn, Ronnie Skelton and Melvin Turnbull, as the team capable of delivering improvements to residents' standard of living and quality of life.

The remarks come as the Wheatley administration pushes forward with infrastructure projects funded partly through a $100 million loan facility signed with CIBC FirstCaribbean in October 2024. Cline accused the government of neglecting roads and water for years before accelerating work as the general election approaches. Premier Wheatley has said the projects result from years of planning and procurement, not election timing.

If returned to office, Cline pledged the NDP would prioritise value for money, economic growth, reliable water, better roads and improved waste management. He also committed to completing projects already started by the current administration rather than abandoning them.
