The People's Leadership Movement is preparing to field candidates for all 13 elected seats in the next general election, according to party leader Mark Vanterpool.
At a recent PLM meeting, Vanterpool said the party's team "is looking good" and predicted the movement would form the next government. "When you see the 13, you will know what I mean because we are going to be ready," he told supporters, adding that more candidate announcements would come in the coming months.
Vanterpool, a former Fourth District representative, called on residents to expect "real representation" and a rebuilding of Road Town. He criticised the current Fourth District representative, Luce Hodge-Smith, over what he characterised as misplaced priorities in the district.
His comments appeared to reference ongoing public debate about plans to replace mature trees along DeCastro Street as part of a sidewalk improvement project. Project officials have said the trees' roots would be damaged during the works.
"District Four, the action man is back!" Vanterpool declared, saying he would establish a district office with a visible sign and focus on individual concerns facing residents in their homes and neighbourhoods.
Vanterpool also sought to strengthen ties with the Spanish community, describing himself as "the Spanish Ambassador of the BVI for the last forty years" and thanking members for their support throughout his political career. He predicted stronger backing from the community in the next election.
