Police in St Vincent and the Grenadines have charged five men following weekend operations that recovered two illegal guns and ammunition, the Royal Saint Vincent and the Grenadines Police Force said.
Zane Dopwell, 38, a mechanic from Walvaroo, and Kyle Ragguette, 33, an entrepreneur from Long Wall, were arrested together and face charges related to unlicensed firearm and ammunition possession. Investigators say the pair had a Glock 19 semi-automatic pistol loaded with 15 rounds of 9mm ammunition without proper licensing under the Firearms Act. The alleged incident took place on Paul's Avenue on September 26.
Both men entered not guilty pleas when they appeared in the Serious Offences Court. The judge withheld bail in both cases, and proceedings were rescheduled for October 5.
In a second sweep, authorities apprehended Tearon James, 29, a mechanic; Terrell McLean, 32, a tradesman; and Akeem Peniston, 32, a labourer, all residing in Diamond. The three face similar charges involving an unlicensed Diamondback.380 semi-automatic pistol and six rounds of.380 ammunition. Police say the offences occurred in Kingstown on the same date.
All three also appeared before the Serious Offences Court, pleaded not guilty, and were refused bail. Their case was set down for October 12.
The police force said the operations reflect its commitment to removing illegal firearms from circulation, preventing organised crime, and tackling gun-related violence in communities.
