The Ministry of Education, Youth Affairs and Sports has begun holding focus groups to review and modernise the Virgin Islands K-12 curriculum, drawing input from teachers, students, parents, school principals, representatives of the H. Lavity Stoutt Community College and business leaders across the territory.

Minister Sharie B. de Castro announced the initiative on the Ministry's Facebook page, calling the consultations vital to developing an education system that meets the needs of current learners and prepares them for tomorrow's job market.

The sessions aim to gather views from all parts of the community so that these perspectives can directly influence how the curriculum develops. By engaging teachers, families, students, school leaders, tertiary institutions and the business sector, the Ministry said it intends to ensure students are equipped for higher education, changing employment demands and long-term achievement.

The most recent full curriculum review happened in 2007. The current effort focuses on adding Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics (STEAM) content, strengthening academic performance and embedding Virgin Islands values throughout the system. The Ministry indicated that the focus group work will continue as the review progresses.
