Virgin Islands drag racing squads claimed top finishes at the King Ocean International Grenada Drags, which took place September 26 and 27 at Pearls International Speedway in St Andrew, Grenada.

The 13 Second Class saw a VI vehicle piloted by Ian Galbreath and belonging to Esau Rohan Andrews take the top spot, with a Dodge Hellcat belonging to Terry Smith and driven by Kareem Douglas coming in second. The class drew more than 16 registered entries.

The Grenada Motor Club organised the competition, which drew 250 registered vehicles and teams from across the Eastern Caribbean region. Participants came from as far as the United States, Guyana, Trinidad, Suriname and Barbados. According to Dr Michael A. Turnbull, who led the VI delegation, it was the largest drag racing event held in the Leeward and Windward Islands during 2026.

Three Virgin Islands vehicles reached the semi-finals. The Team BVI contingent, fielding Speed Shop VI and Hurricane Racing Crew, secured the event's top trophy. King Ocean covered transportation costs for the VI vehicles to Grenada at no charge.

Dr Turnbull described the team as comprising eight members across driving, mechanical and ownership roles. Fly BVI pilot Jeremy Charles, born in Grenada but raised in Virgin Gorda, flew the team's aircraft, his first visit back to Grenada in fifteen years.

Support came from Fly BVI, the Ministry of Communications and Works, Hon Kye M. Rymer (R5), and the BVI Ports Authority. Dr Turnbull noted that while event organisation had room for improvement, the gathering demonstrated the potential for growth and cultural exchange through motorsports tourism.
