The West Indies set a new one-day international record on Wednesday, scoring 405 for seven wickets against India in Guwahati in the second match of their three-game series.
Opener John Campbell led the charge with 101 runs off 68 balls, including nine fours and five sixes. Captain Shai Hope followed with 104, and left-hander Amir Jangoo added 114 to power the batting display on a pitch favourable to batsmen.
Campbell and Hope built a 110-run partnership after West Indies lost Keacy Carter early for nine. Hope and Jangoo then put on 182 runs for the third wicket, dominating India's bowling attack with consistent boundaries.
The previous West Indies ODI record was 389 against England in 2019, though that match ended in defeat. Hope's century was his 20th in ODI cricket, moving him past West Indies legend Brian Lara's 19 hundreds. Chris Gayle holds the team record with 25 ODI centuries.
Jangoo reached his second ODI hundred off 70 balls. West Indies lost three quick wickets late in the innings. Hope, Sherfane Rutherford (out for a duck) and Jangoo, before Roston Chase's unbeaten 29 helped push the total past 400.
India will need to chase down a record total to win. Their best ODI chase stands at 362 against Australia in Jaipur in 2013. The series is currently level at 1-0 to India.
