A two-month-old girl in the Bahamas has died following what her mother describes as two dismissals from Princess Margaret Hospital without adequate medical attention.
A'lora was born on August 3, 2026, to Neisha Nicolas, 23. Nicolas first became concerned when she noticed a rash on her daughter's skin. On September 21, she took the infant to a clinic, where staff prescribed ointments and washes, but the rash did not clear.
Four days later, Nicolas brought A'lora to Princess Margaret Hospital. She said doctors examined the baby, declared her healthy, and discharged her without a prescription or observation overnight.
When fever developed in the following days, Nicolas returned to the hospital for a second visit. Hospital staff again told her the baby was well and released her under the same conditions: no medication, no overnight stay.
On Tuesday, the infant's health sharply deteriorated. Nicolas intended to seek care at a private doctor but the child became unresponsive before she could leave. Late on Wednesday, October 1, A'lora stopped breathing and died in her mother's arms.
Emergency Medical Services staff examined the infant at Carmichael Police Station and pronounced her dead. Police records note that the baby had experienced a high fever and had visited the hospital twice beforehand. An autopsy was ordered to identify the cause of death.
Dr. Michaek Darville, the Minister of Health and Wellness, expressed sympathy to the family but said he could not comment further without complete information. Charles Sealy, Managing Director for Public Hospitals Authority, also declined to provide additional remarks. No official finding has yet been made regarding whether inadequate medical care contributed to the child's death.
