A 19-year-old man has been charged with three counts of murder following a shooting and arson attack in Kingston that killed two women and a one-year-old boy on October 9.

Dante Davis, a resident of Spanish Town Road and Kidd Lane in St Andrew, was arrested on October 10 and faces charges including murder, arson, plotting to commit arson, carrying an unlawful weapon, illegal possession of ammunition and using a firearm to commit a serious criminal offence, according to the Jamaica Constabulary Force.

The victims were identified as Kimesha Gibson, 39, Lashea Ellis, 30, and Ellis's one-year-old son Khael Daley. All three lived at the Kidd Lane address where the attack occurred.

Neighbours heard an explosion just before midnight on October 9 and alerted police. When officers arrived, the residence was engulfed in flames. Gibson was found with gunshot wounds at the back of the property. The Jamaica Fire Brigade extinguished the fire, and the remains of Ellis and her son were recovered during the cooling-down operation.

The Homicide Investigation Division and the St Andrew South Criminal Investigations Branch led the investigation. Police identified 11 persons of interest in connection with the killings and violence in the Kidd Lane and Browens Road area.

Prime Minister Andrew Holness expressed condolences for the victims and instructed National Security Minister Dr Horace Chang to prioritise the case. No court date has been set.
