The Trinidad and Tobago Police Service is investigating claims of animal cruelty following the spread of a video on social media depicting abuse.

Deputy Commissioner Suzette Martin announced the inquiry in a public statement, noting that officers are pursuing leads in the Talparo and San Rafael districts. The probe was triggered by the circulation of footage that allegedly showed acts of harm against an animal.

Martin said the investigation remains active, with police continuing to speak with witnesses and gather statements. The service emphasised its commitment to pursuing such matters and indicated that criminal charges would follow if evidence warrants them.

"Any allegation involving the deliberate abuse, mistreatment, injury or killing of an animal will be thoroughly investigated, and where the evidence establishes that a criminal offence has been committed, the TTPS will take the appropriate action to bring those responsible to justice," the statement said.

The police service called on members of the public to report suspected cruelty and said it welcomes photographs, video recordings and other material that could aid the inquiry. Anyone with knowledge of the incident is urged to visit their nearest police station. The TTPS said it condemns all forms of animal cruelty and pledged to keep the public informed as the investigation develops.
