Residents of the British Virgin Islands will gather on Saturday, October 3, for CIBC Caribbean's Walk for the Cure, a long-running campaign to support cancer patients and boost public awareness of the disease.

The event kicks off at 5:30 AM from the bank's Road Town location. Walkers will proceed along the waterfront, passing through to Ebenezer Thomas Primary School in Sea Cows Bay, then loop back to the starting point. People interested in joining can pick up registration forms at either the CIBC Caribbean Road Town branch or the BVI Cancer Society office.

This marks the 14th year CIBC Caribbean has organised the walk in partnership with the BVI Cancer Society and backing from local business sponsors. The previous year's effort brought in $75,000, which the Cancer Society used to help patients afford treatment, medication, travel costs, counselling and educational initiatives. That money also went toward building a national cancer registry for the territory.

The Rotary Club of Tortola will be on hand offering free screening and information sessions focused on four cancer types: breast, prostate, colon and cervical. These four have emerged as the most common forms affecting people in the islands.

Organisers are urging the community to sign up and take part, noting that "every step counts. Together, we can make a difference."
