Prime Minister Andrew Holness has ordered swift action following a combined shooting and arson incident in Kidd Lane, St Andrew, that left three people dead on the night of October 9.
The victims were 30-year-old Lashane Ellis, her one-year-old son Kaheel Daley, and 39-year-old Kimeisha Gibson. The violence occurred around 11:45 p.m. in the St Andrew South Police Division, in an area near Spanish Town Road and Waltham Park Road.
According to the Jamaica Constabulary Force, gunmen forced their way into a house where Ellis and her child were staying, fired multiple shots and then set the building alight. The attackers subsequently targeted a neighbouring residence, where they shot and killed Gibson. Neighbours heard the gunfire and saw flames coming from the property. Firefighters from Trench Town Fire Station arrived to extinguish the blaze.
When officers reached the scene, they discovered Gibson's body behind the house bearing several gunshot wounds. The charred remains of Ellis and her son were later found inside the burnt-out dwelling.
Police have named 11 persons of interest in the killings and are working to bring them in for questioning. The Jamaica Constabulary Force said the investigation is also looking at gang violence affecting the Kidd Lane and Bowens Road areas.
Prime Minister Holness conveyed sympathy to the families affected and directed National Security Minister Dr Horace Chang to treat the matter as a priority.
