The US Virgin Islands will hold Veterans Day parades on both St. Thomas and St. Croix on Wednesday, November 11, the Office of Veterans Affairs announced this week.

In Charlotte Amalie, the St. Thomas procession kicks off at 9 a.m. along Veterans Drive. Participants will gather at Emile Griffith Park's parking lot before moving east along Veterans Drive, passing the Legislature building. A reviewing stand has been positioned on the right side of the road just after the bus stop. The route then turns left at the Alexander A. Farrelly Justice Complex and again into the Fort Christian parking lot, where marchers will disperse. An official ceremony will immediately follow in the Fort Christian parking lot on its eastern side.

Across the channel, Frederiksted's parade begins at 3 p.m. at the head of King Street. Marchers will travel along King Street, veer left at Buddhoe Park and continue down Strand Street, with the reviewing stand on the right. The procession passes Verne I. Richards Veterans Memorial Park before ending at the parking lot across from Frederiksted Health Clinic. The formal ceremony takes place at the platform within Verne I. Richards Veterans Memorial Park on Strand Street.

The Veterans Affairs office is seeking organizations to join either parade. Groups on St. Thomas and St. John can register by calling 340-774-8387; those on St. Croix should phone 340-773-8387. No separate observance was mentioned for St. John.

The events give veterans, their families and the broader community a chance to acknowledge the service and sacrifice of those who have served in the United States Armed Forces.
