St. John Rescue is appealing to residents, businesses, visitors and community partners for donations to cover critical operating costs as the all-volunteer organization nears three decades of service on the island.
Founded in 1996, the agency said it faces a funding shortfall and needs financial support to maintain the training, equipment and readiness of its emergency responders. The organization will mark its 30th anniversary late next month.
Operating costs include fuel, vehicle and marine asset maintenance, medical supplies, lifesaving gear, and continuing education for volunteers, according to a statement released by St. John Rescue. The organization also uses donations to provide dignified transportation of deceased individuals, described as an important service for families across St. John.
Beyond emergency response and backup support to other agencies, St. John Rescue runs a training center offering CPR, First Aid, and emergency medical responder and technician courses to strengthen both its volunteer corps and the island's overall emergency preparedness.
The organization noted that while one-time gifts help address immediate needs, recurring contributions and business sponsorships provide year-round stability. Those interested in donating can visit the organization's donation link, call (340) 693-7377, or email [email protected].
